I avoid all B&D products…….poorly engineered to meet a price point in my opinion……

This is driving me nuts. So I had to replace my cap. Bought a cheapie on line and after fitting the auto feed didnt work (brake button worked but the spool seemed jammed). Checked and cleaned everything but still no auto feed. The feed works manually but as soon as I put the cap on it the spool doesnt click back for the next feed. Changed springs using the original B&D provided with the original cap. Still no good. So I bought a genuine B&D top. Same bloody issue. Have watched all available vids but nothing seems to work. I have used non genuine spools plenty of times before with no issues so I just cannot see what is preventing the spool from returning for the next feed. HELP!

Not to be too nitpicky, but it is called a wire rope clip. The “saddle“ is just one part of it.

How does it work on units without a button?

I've used and abused my STE525 for 7 years. The Lever Assembly finally broke on me. The two things I ordered were Spring Fits - OEM 90626125, and OEM 90626568 Lever Assembly I also ordered an EGO since I am gonna have a bigger plot of property, but want to keep this running since it's light and my wife can use it. Great little string trimmer if you get some extra battery power and don't have a massive yard

I have a B&D 20V trimmer with the 12" mower base. Thanks for the info regarding not feeding trim line. My issue is when the batteries get weak the trim line can go to an almost continual feed. I have cleaned the debris in under the head, but watching what you showed me gave me a clear picture of this mechanism and exactly how it functions. Ok I wound the trim line backwards and it worked. Had to stop every 10 minutes or so to manually let out trim line and it seemed the battery lasted a bit longer too. Saving my empty trim wire spools and getting trim line for them. Now if they made a bump head for this trimmer that would be the fix.

Oh brother - I knew this from a long time ago and haven't used it in years so I'm searching all over where I can find an arrow to use. This helped a lot - thanks a bunch.

Same mechanism on the LST220 - mine used to advance fine, put in the latest replacement spool and it wouldn't advance (though I could pop off the cap and manually twist it back and forth to advance it.) The rocker moves fine, nothing blocking it, but it doesn't come back on its own because there's no spring. Lever Assembly 90567077 seems to be the part for the rocker, any advice on replacing the spring itself?

First of all, legendary name. I love it. I hadn’t done this in over 30 years and thought I remembered how to do it; thanks for confirming. I looked at a few videos before this, but they all used unnecessary power tools.

You make it sound too good to be true--and it is. There are two bars on a hedge trimmer working in opposite directions to each other. One bar ( for instance, mine) has seventeen teeth on the left side and seventeen on the right. That makes 34 teeth for that bar. Double that number when you include the second bar. You have sixty eight teeth in total. Double that number to 136. That's the number of cutters that have to be sharpened, since there are two cutters on each tooth. The bars have to be moved regularly to get proper access the the cutters as they are sharpened. With the big file that you have, if you are going to do the job right, the job will take you an hour and a half to two hours--maybe more. You left out all the detail.

Thank you Sir. Should have watched your video before I took mine apart. Oh Well I kept scratching my head looking for some kind of device or mechanism that would move that pin lever under the spool. I think now that its cleaned up, especially that little hole in the drum where the string comes through, things may work as they're supposed to.

I agree in that I would not sand anything as it appears to be a rather precision fit between the metal band around the post and the center of the spool. Vascelilne ( or perhaps WD40 manbe ) seems the logical approach. If it works out, repost your results here. Bob

Those gate kits can twist a gate permanently because they pull from one side.

IF you would like to enhances this explanation, then consider this - - For some time now, for many of us, the line spool is not advancing freely around the center post. If the spool is difficult to snap over the post, the post will heat up when running and seize onto the spool, causing lack of line feed. Either some WD40 or a bit of sanding of the post, so the spool slips more freely onto it, solves this problem. Therefore the problem appears to be two fold and each should be checked. Wow, you explain so nicely and understandably and show us clearly what to do. I feel like even I could do this (and until I entered my 30’s, I never thought I would’ve even dared holding a hedge cutter). Do you have any tips on what to do if there’s a small/thin metal curl on one of the blades (one that makes the machine unable to cut until fixed)?

Did you thin out the paint by using the viscosity cup that came with it?

Good video. My trimmer is having trouble feeding line since I bought Rhino-Tuff .065 twisted line. It keeps getting stuck. I still have a lot of it left, and I hate taking the cap off every couple minutes to pull more line out. I have re-strung with smooth line for years and had zero problems with the smooth stuff.
